Wishing to be a rival to the Ayasofya mosque, sultan Ahmet I built the Blue Mosque (or Sultanahmet) between 1609 and 1616 as the largest mosque in Istanbul.

Blue Mosque is one of the most famous sights in Istanbul, the only mosque in Turkey with six minarets.
